Crossing the river: Chelsea to Battersea by bridge
Battersea is directly opposite Chelsea across the Thames, so the trip depends almost entirely on which bridge is moving. Albert Bridge is the most direct for Albert Bridge Road and the west side of Battersea Park, though it carries a weight limit and gets congested. Battersea Bridge brings us out by Battersea Church Road and Battersea Square, which suits the riverside flats and the streets toward Clapham Junction. Chelsea Bridge is our route for Queenstown Road, the east side of the park and the Power Station.
We check traffic before leaving and pick the clearest crossing. Our usual arrival for SW11 is 25 to 45 minutes, and we tell you the expected time when you call rather than promising something we cannot keep.
We usually reach north Battersea in 25 to 45 minutes from our base in Chelsea SW3 over Albert, Battersea or Chelsea Bridge; the time and price are confirmed on the phone before we set off.
North Battersea streets we cover most
We cover all of SW11, but most of our calls come from the part closest to the river:
Further south, toward Clapham Junction and Northcote Road, the arrival time sits at the longer end of the range. For the other side of the common, see our Clapham SW4 locksmith page, and for the stretch west along the river, our Wandsworth locksmith page.

Mansion flats on Prince of Wales Drive and the park
The long rows of red brick mansion blocks facing Battersea Park, along Prince of Wales Drive and Albert Bridge Road, are a big part of what we do in SW11. These buildings bring their own lock set up:
- A shared street door, often on a door entry phone and a closer, managed by a residents' company or managing agent.
- Heavy timber flat entrance doors, usually with a mortice deadlock and a nightlatch, and sometimes a door that has to stay fire rated.
- Communal post boxes in the hallway with small cam locks that wear out or go missing with a previous owner.
If you are locked out of a mansion flat, we open the flat door without damaging the frame wherever possible. For communal doors and closers we work with the porter or managing agent, as covered on our mansion block locksmith page. A lost post box key is a quick job: a post box lock replacement costs £25 to £45.
Battersea Power Station and riverside new builds
The redevelopment around Battersea Power Station and the riverside blocks along the Thames have added a large number of modern flats with fob entry, concierge desks and fire rated entrance doors. These are different jobs from a Victorian house.
Before we touch a new build flat door
Many developments use a master key or restricted key system, and some require the building's own contractor for the main entrance. Tell the concierge first. We can open your flat door, change the cylinder on the flat door where the building allows it, and fit like for like fire door hardware so the door stays compliant.
Fobs and access control panels in shared areas belong to the building. We do not reprogramme those without the managing agent's authority. For our work on entry systems more generally, see access control.
Battersea houses, conversions and council estate blocks
Away from the park, SW11 mixes Victorian terraces split into flats, small workers' cottages near Battersea High Street, and large council built estates such as the Doddington and Winstanley estates. Each brings a different kind of call. Terraced conversions tend to need anti snap cylinders and new nightlatches. Estate flats often have council fitted doors where the tenant must check with the landlord before changing a lock, and we can supply a matching replacement so the door stays within the landlord's rules.
If you rent, keep your tenancy agreement handy when you call. It doubles as proof of residence and tells us who owns the door.

Emergency locksmith in Battersea after a break in
Across London, ground floor flats and houses with rear or side access are the usual targets for burglars, and SW11 is no different. If you come home to a forced door, call the police for a crime reference number first, then call us. We make the door secure the same night: new locks, frame repairs where they can be done straight away, or boarding up if the door or glass is beyond a quick fix.
A break in repair and secure up costs £75 to £175, depending on the damage and parts. You can read what that involves on our burglary repair page. If anyone is still in the property, or a child, a vulnerable person or a pet is shut inside a locked home, call 999 before you call a locksmith.
Why use a Chelsea locksmith on the Battersea side?
We are not based in Battersea and we do not pretend to be. Our base is in Chelsea SW3, which puts north Battersea just one bridge away. You speak directly to the locksmith who will come out, you get a price before we leave, there is no call out fee, and you pay once the job is done and tested. We are DBS checked, public liability insured and have worked in Chelsea and the neighbouring districts for more than five years.
See every district we serve on our areas covered page, including Vauxhall and Nine Elms just east of the Power Station.
Common questions
Which bridge do you use to get to Battersea?
It depends on where you are in SW11 and on traffic. Albert Bridge suits Albert Bridge Road and the park, Battersea Bridge suits Battersea Square and the riverside, and Chelsea Bridge suits Queenstown Road and the Power Station. Usual arrival is 25 to 45 minutes.
Can you change the lock on my Battersea Power Station flat?
Often yes for the flat door, as long as the building does not run a restricted key system. Check with the concierge first. We fit like for like hardware so a fire rated door stays compliant, and a cylinder change costs £40 to £65.
I lost the key to my mansion block post box. What can I do?
We replace communal post box cam locks with a new lock and keys for £25 to £45. Let the porter or managing agent know so the new keys are on record. See our post box lock page for details.
What does a locksmith in Battersea charge at night?
Our prices are ranges, with the higher end for nights, weekends and high security parts. A night lockout in SW11 falls within £45 to £75. There is no call out fee, and we confirm the exact figure before we leave Chelsea.
Do you cover Clapham Junction and Northcote Road?
Yes, though they sit at the far end of our usual time range from Chelsea. For homes on the Clapham side of the commons, our Clapham locksmith page has the details.
Can you secure my Battersea flat the same night after a burglary?
Yes. Get a crime reference number from the police, then call us. We replace damaged locks, repair the frame where possible or board up, for £75 to £175 for a secure up, or £50 to £100 for boarding alone.
