Chelsea Harbour, Imperial Wharf and Chelsea Creek

Chelsea Harbour is the marina development at the very south west corner of Chelsea, reached from Lots Road along Chelsea Harbour Drive. Around the marina are apartment buildings, the Belvedere tower and the Design Centre. Just over the creek on the Fulham side sit the newer riverside blocks of Imperial Wharf, with its Overground station, and Chelsea Creek.

From our Chelsea base we come west along the King's Road, or the Embankment past Cheyne Walk, then down Lots Road. The run is short, but security barriers and concierge check in add a few minutes, which is why we quote 20 to 40 minutes. The older streets just north are covered on our World's End locksmith page, the rest of SW6 on Fulham locksmith, and the whole list on areas we cover.

We usually reach Chelsea Harbour, Imperial Wharf and Chelsea Creek in 20 to 40 minutes from our base in Chelsea SW3; the price is confirmed on the phone before we set off.

Locked out of your car in a Chelsea Harbour car park?

Most Chelsea Harbour and Imperial Wharf buildings park residents underground. That makes car calls here different from a lockout on an open street, and a little preparation saves time.

  1. Call with your registration. We confirm your make and model first, so you know whether we can help on site. Some newer models and some smart keys need the dealer, and we will tell you that honestly.
  2. Tell us the building, level and bay. Mobile signal is often weak underground, so give us these details before you go back down.
  3. Ask the concierge to expect us. We need to be let through the barrier or car park door, and the desk usually needs a name.
  4. Have proof of ownership ready. We check the V5C and photo ID before opening a car or making a key.

A car lockout is £40 to £65. If the keys are lost rather than locked inside, see car key replacement; a new key when all are lost is £75 to £140, and a spare car key cut and programmed is £50 to £90.

Range Rover, Mercedes and other high value car keys in SW10

The cars parked under the harbour apartments tend to be newer, higher value models with keyless entry and push button start. For many of them we can supply and program a replacement key on site; for some, the latest security systems mean only the dealer can do it.

That is why we always ask for the registration on the call rather than promising before we know. If we can do it, you avoid a tow to the dealer and a wait of days. If we cannot, you have lost nothing but a phone call. Our luxury car keys page covers the makes we see most, and our keyless car theft guide explains how to keep a keyless car safe in a shared car park.

Apartment lockouts, fobs and flat door locks at the harbour

Flat entrance doors in these buildings are modern fire rated doors, usually fitted with a euro cylinder lock, sometimes a multipoint lock, and a closer that pulls the door shut behind you. The commonest lockout is simply stepping into the corridor and hearing the door click.

Try the concierge first

Many residents leave a spare with the desk or with a letting agent. If not, we can usually open a door that is only on the latch without damage. A deadlocked door with a high security cylinder may need the cylinder replaced, which we price before starting.

Fobs and entry systems

Building fobs, lift fobs and car park remotes are managed by the estate or building management, who issue replacements. We look after the mechanical locks: your flat door, balcony door and post box.

Changing tenants

Many harbour apartments are let, often furnished or on company lets. Landlords usually want the flat door cylinder changed between tenants; a 3 star anti snap cylinder replacement costs £40 to £65.

Sliding balcony doors that will not lock

Riverside apartments get a lot of wind and weather on their balcony and terrace doors. Over time sliding doors drop on their rollers and the hook lock no longer lines up with the keep, so the handle turns but the door does not lock. French style terrace doors suffer the same with their shoot bolts.

Usually the fix is an adjustment and a new lock or handle rather than a new door. Our patio door locks service covers sliding and French doors, and lock repairs are £35 to £60 for standard parts.

Showrooms and offices around the harbour

Chelsea Harbour is not only homes. The Design Centre and the office space around the marina are full of showrooms and studios with glass entrance doors, internal stock rooms and staff who come and go on shifts. Their lock problems are commercial ones.

  • A member of staff leaves and the stock room or office cylinder needs changing before the next morning.
  • A glass or aluminium door will not lock because its closer or floor spring is pushing the door out of line.
  • Several showroom doors need to work from one key for the person locking up.

We need authority from the business owner or manager, and the building's facilities team may need to approve access out of hours. Single cylinder changes are £40 to £65; multiple doors and master key systems are priced on the phone before we set off. See our commercial locksmith service for more.

Emergency locksmith in Chelsea Harbour: what to have ready

Before we arrive

Your building name and flat or bay number, a word with the concierge, and ID with your address or your V5C for a car. If a child or pet is shut in a car or flat, or anything is left cooking, call 999 first.

We answer 24 hours a day and the person on the phone is the locksmith who comes out. Every price range is on our price list, and you pay once the job is done and tested.

Common questions

Can you get into the underground car park at Chelsea Harbour?

Yes, with the concierge or security letting us in. Ask the desk to expect a locksmith and give us your building, level and bay number before you head back down, as phone signal underground is often poor.

Can you make a new key for my car if I lost it at Imperial Wharf?

For many makes, yes, cut and programmed on site for £75 to £140. Call with your registration so we can confirm your make and model first. Some newer models and smart keys need the dealer, and we will tell you if so.

Do you replace building fobs at Chelsea Harbour?

No. Entry fobs, lift fobs and car park remotes are controlled by the estate or building management, so replacements come from them. We handle the locks on your apartment door, balcony door and post box.

My apartment door closed behind me in the corridor. What should I do?

Ask the concierge whether a spare is held at the desk. If not, call us. A door that has only closed on the latch can usually be opened without damage for £45 to £75.

Is there a locksmith who covers Chelsea Creek?

Yes. We cover Chelsea Creek, Imperial Wharf and the Lots Road developments in the same 20 to 40 minute window as the harbour itself, with the price agreed on the phone.

Can a locksmith fix a balcony sliding door that will not lock?

Usually, yes. Most often the door has dropped on its rollers so the lock misses its keep. We adjust it and replace the lock or handle if needed. See patio door locks.
